Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Laws was adopted at birth and found her birthparents in her late 20’s and has a great relationship with them. She believes “You can never have too many parents.”
A syndicated columnist, author, co-host, Realtor, wife and mother, Dr. Laws is a former Los Angeles Commissioner, appointed by Mayor Villaraigosa in 2006. Elected to the Greater Valley Glen Council in 2004 and now serving in her third term, she also chairs the council’s Government Relations Committee and has written many resolutions that have been forwarded to the LA City Council and to legislators in Sacramento. Dr. Laws is also a South Valley representative for the Los Angeles Neighborhood Council Coalition (LANC).
She has been a top California Realtor for the past 20 years. Listed in the top 1% of agents nationwide and is the recipient of numerous Real Estate Awards.
Dr. Laws has a Ph.D. in Social Ethics from the University of Southern California (USC) and completed postdoctoral study in Philosophy at Oxford University, England. Dr. Laws has two Master’s Degrees: in Social Ethics and Professional Writing from USC. Additionally, she also earned two BA Degrees: in Philosophy and Theatre from California State University, Northridge and did graduate work at UCLA in Education.
She is the founder and president of two nonprofits: The Los Angeles Directors of Animal Welfare (DAW) and the League for Earth and Animal Protection (LEAP). Protecting animals is her passion because animals are truly the voiceless and forgotten. She is the winner of the 2006 Los Angeles Animal Humanitarian Award.
She lives in Woodland Hills with her husband, 22 year old daughter and her two rescue dogs.
Dr. Laws is passionate about philosophy, animal rights, politics, tennis, step aerobics and collecting clothes.
